Does the documentation still match the API it was written for? In most teams the API lives in several copies across OpenAPI files, documentation, mock servers, tests, and monitoring tools, and each copy drifts on its own schedule until that drift turns into bugs. Routebase removes the drift by generating every copy from one living OpenAPI spec, so a change to the contract reaches documentation, API mocking, API testing, and monitoring in a single publish.

Routebase is an API lifecycle platform for the teams that own an API, including developers, frontend engineers, QA teams, and on-call personnel. The Windows desktop app gives you the complete Routebase workspace as a native application, with the same projects, specs, and permissions as the web app.

How it works

You design the API in the visual editor or import an existing OpenAPI file. From that single source of truth Routebase derives the documentation portal, the mock server, the contract tests, and the monitors. When you change the contract and publish, Routebase compares the new version with the previous one, flags breaking changes, and validates the live API against the updated spec. Every workspace also includes a built-in MCP server, so AI agents in Visual Studio Code, Claude, Codex, or Cursor work with the same source of truth. They can design endpoints, write and run test suites, and lint specs under your team's existing permissions.

Requirements and plans

The desktop app runs on Windows 11 and requires a Routebase account, which you can create for free. The Free plan includes one user, two projects, the visual OpenAPI editor, an auto-generated docs portal, mock servers with 1,000 mock requests per month, and OpenAPI import and export. Paid plans add unlimited users, more projects, and scheduled test runs, while higher tiers add spec branching with merge requests, governance and security scanning, monitoring with alerts, and a custom domain for the docs portal. Every new account starts with a 14-day Pro trial.
